Robert Filer, MD was raised in Toronto, Canada.  He began his training at the University of Western Ontario in London, receiving a Bachelor of Science and earning a place on the Dean’s Honor List.  Dr. Filer received both his medical degree and master of surgery degree from the top ranked McGill University in Montreal, Canada.  He continued his education at the University of Western Ontario, performing an internship in internal medicine. Dr. Filer then underwent additional training in ophthalmology, finishing a fellowship in Ocular Oncology Department at the University of California, San Francisco.  Dr. Filer completed his Ophthalmology residency, and served as chief resident at the Albert Einstein College of Medicines’ affiliated hospital, the Long Island Jewish Medical Center. It was during this clinical and surgical training that Dr. Filer developed a special interest in cosmetic oculoplastic surgery.

Dr. Filer is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. In addition, he is also an active member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery.  He continues to stay on the leading edge of all of the latest cosmetic and facial rejuvenating procedures.  He is also on clinical faculty at Stanford University and California Pacific Medical Center.  He regularly lectures to both medical students and residents about numerous topics in Ophthalmology and Ophthalmic surgery.  Dr. Filer also teaches surgical procedures to the Stanford ophthalmology residents throughout the year.  He is continually invited to lecture to other

physicians and optometrists at prominent meetings throughout the Bay area.

The Consumers’ Research Council of America recently selected Dr. Filer as one of America’s Top Ophthalmologists.  He is the current Chairman of the Ophthalmology section at Mill-Peninsula Hospitals in San Mateo and Burlingame.  He is a past chairman of the San Mateo County Medical Association’s Young Physician section, and received an award in recognition for his work with the society.  He is also a previous chair of the Maimonides Society of the North Peninsula, and completed a term on the executive committee of the California Medical Associations’ Young Physicians section.
